MDS Admission Process in Punjab
Masters of Dental Surgery (MDS) is a 3-year postgraduate course that can be pursued in any one of the nine dental specialties. Although postgraduation in all branches is not available at every dental college in Punjab, the only way to conquer an MDS seat is through Punjab State counselling.
There are four rounds. Subsequent rounds will be conducted depending on the vacancy matrix after the primary rounds of allotment.
Since all the colleges offering MDS in Punjab are affiliated with the BFUHS, interested students have to participate in the counselling conducted by the BFUHS.
The counselling protocol follows the outline of the all-India MDS counselling, and the steps include the following,
- Online Registration on www.bfuhs.ac.in.
- Submission of Application Forms.
- Online submission of application fee.
- Display of Provisional Merit List.
- Display of the MDS Seat Matrix.
- Submission of willingness and payment of security deposit.
- Choice-filling round for specialty and college.
- Provisional allotment of seat.
- Deposition of the tuition fee through the Online Payment Gateway on the University website.
- Reporting to the allotted college/hospital for verification of original document and eligibility, followed by a medical examination.
MDS Eligibility Criteria in Punjab
Mere registration for the counselling process does not guarantee the allotment of seats; the applicant must fulfil the eligibility clauses stated for admission into the MDS course in Punjab.
Firstly, the applicant must complete BDS from a recognized dental institute. Additionally, the students must undergo or complete the one-year rotatory internship on or before the date specified by the NMC/DCI in the relevant year.
Qualifying for the NEET MDS exam with the minimum cut-off marks is one of the important prerequisites to get an allotment in Punjab!
The announcement of the NEET MDS 2024 cut-off score is due, as the MDS exam for the year has not been conducted yet. However, the NBEMS has scheduled the exam for February 9, 2024.
NEET MDS Cut-off 2023 | ||
Category | First
Cut-Off Score | Revised Cut-Off Score |
General/EWS | 272 | 168 |
UR-PWD | 255 | 149 |
SC/ST/OBC | 238 | 125 |
In 2023, this cut-off was announced as the 50th percentile for the General/EWS category, the 45th percentile for UR-PWD, and the 40th percentile for the SC, ST, and OBC. The cut-off scores were 272, 255, and 238, respectively.
However, the revised percentile was remarkably lower than the previous year. It was re-announced as the 18th percentile for General/EWS, the 13th percentile for UR-PWD, and the 8th percentile for the SC, ST, and OBC categories. This led to a revised cut-off score of 168, 149, and 125, respectively.
In 2022, similar trends were seen in context to the first cut-off percentiles, and the cut-off score accounted for up to 263 for the General/EWS, 245 scores for UR-PWD, and 227 for the SC, ST, and OBC reservations.
However, another revised cut–off percentile was announced as 174 (24th percentile) for the General/EWS category, 157 (19th percentile) for UR-PWD, and 138 (14th percentile) for the SC, ST, and OBC applicants.
A notable point here is that non-domicile students in Punjab can only apply for management seats in Punjab counselling and are not eligible for state quota seats. Additionally, every non-domicile student must be qualified in the general cut-off irrespective of their reservation category.
