Hello Everyone! “Manipal” is a name that is globally recognized for academic excellence. Certainly! You, too, must be aware of this well-known group of dental institutions. Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS) is on the list of every dental aspirant. The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course in Manipal is very popular among them.
The postgraduate course Master of Dental Surgery, or MDS, in Manipal is equally famous among BDS graduates. I have received innumerable queries about both from students! So, a discussion on MCODS is extremely necessary! So that I can also answer your queries through my own personal experience and student interactions!
So, MCODS is affiliated with MAHE University, which is a deemed university. There are many other courses they run under them on different campuses. Also, MCODS itself has two campuses, the first is located in Udupi, and the second is located in Mangalore.
Manipal Dental Colleges are located in the state of Karnataka and are well connected by public transport. MCODS Mangalore is just half an hour away from the city’s international airport and 5 minutes away from the railway junction.
Although MCODS, Udupi, is just 65 km away from Mangalore, my ride was very smooth from here to the campus. It just took me an hour and a half from the Mangalore campus to reach MCODS, Udupi, by road!
Every year, I have helped many students get dental admission to both MCODS. While guiding these students, who come from cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore, I learned that there is direct flight connectivity to Mangalore from these places.
You can even directly fly from the Gulf to Mangalore. This can be quite beneficial for any NRI or international candidate. Apart from that, you can also travel by road to both the MCODS campuses from all major cities in Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, etc.
Very few people know that Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Udupi, is the first private dental college established in India. The college has a great infrastructure with a well-equipped dental hospital, smart classrooms, research labs, phantom head simulation laboratories, etc. Both dental hospitals are equipped with 300+ dental chairs and boast all kinds of modern dental technologies present today. MCODS, Mangalore, is also equally good in terms of infrastructure and facilities. However, it was established 20 years later than the first campus!
As a dentist, I was very interested in the academics and college quality of Manipal. I have heard so much about it, after all! So, I did some more research to get into the details, and the information I collected is really impressive!
Hence, you must check it out for yourself, too! Here is an overview of MCODS Manipal and Mangalore.

Admission Process to Manipal Dental College
MCODS, Manipal, and Udupi are affiliated with the MAHE, which is a deemed-to-be- university. So, to get admission here, you must participate in the All India counselling. Of course, you must be NEET qualified to go ahead!
BDS aspirants must participate in the NEET UG counselling, and MDS aspirants in the PG counselling. The process is similar for both undergrad and postgrad counselling. Here is the outline of the admission process to MCODS.
- Application Process and Registration Fee.
- The Security Deposit.
- Choice-filling.
- Allotment and Results.
- Reporting and Verification.
The application form is the first step to registering for the admissions process. My experience with students says that you should fill out the form within a designated time limit, which is usually a month from the date of the announcement. This registration process also involves the payment of a fee.
I recall one incident when one of my BDS students from Maharashtra was admitted to MCODS in Udupi. He was trying to make this payment when he was travelling, and it got stuck due to a slow network, which created havoc! So, you must be calm and careful as you start the registration. Although it only takes an hour or a half to complete the entire process, you must avoid completing it in a hurry to avoid any blunders!
Once registration is over, you will have to pay the security deposit of Rs. 2,00,000/-for both UG and PG counselling. Including the registration fee, the total amount is Rs. 2,05,000/-. I have come across students with the problem of insufficient payment limits. Since this amount must be paid online, you must ensure that your card limit is above Rs. 2,00,000/- lakh before the security deposit round.
The security deposit payment will make you eligible to participate in the option entry round. If you are a BDS aspirant, you will get to select dental colleges, while MDS aspirants have to select their specialty of interest. It is followed by the choice-locking round, where you can lock your option entries.
Once all these steps are over, the MCCI will now release the allotment results! You will get your allotment letter for the same, after which you have to report to the college.
So, if you are allotted to Manipal College of Dental Sciences, you will have to report there for your document verification. Once you pass this, you will receive your admission confirmation for BDS at one of the dental colleges in India!
Course Fees In Manipal Dental College
The total course fees for BDS at Manipal Dental College are around Rs. 20,00,000/- for four years. For MDS students baked on specialty, the total tuition fee for three years is between Rs. 26,05,000/- and Rs. 58,06,000/-.
Hostel and mess charges in MCODS can be between Rs.1,30,000/- and Rs. 2,30,00/- depending on the facility choice.
Consider a lakh or two extra when it comes to the complete course fee, considering the various miscellaneous charges, academic requirements, and course modules. This may even be less than the expected figure!
How Can I Help You?
The general opinion about MCODS is good, hence, many students target admission to pursue dentistry there! The competition gets tougher every round unless you have complete information about the admissions process.
My experience says a decent rank and a good strategy can help you get there! However, how and which campus will be best for you can be confusing as well. In both cases, we can help you!
This is possible because I have provided admission guidance to many students at Manipal Dental College for both BDS and MDS. Apart from visual inspection, during this process, I could collect the perspective of the students who have been studying there and even from past alums.
This allowed me to review the actual scenario of their academic standards and educational exposure for dental students. Additionally, information like daily OPD, treatment practices, advanced technologies, patient: student ratio, environment, etc., are some more things that I discussed.
Due to this, I can help you with not just the admission process but also provide you with counseling guidance regarding your career plans in MCODS. I can also provide you with a comparative review of both Manipal campuses as well!
At DentalFry, we only recommend institutes after we are satisfied; hence, providing unfiltered information is a priority.
Apart from that, our dental research team also evaluates the colleges we recommend from a dental student’s viewpoint. I can also help you with their perspective if you need it. Like this, we even connect with many past students from various colleges to help students like you!
So, with this, I also conclude this article about direct admission to Manipal Dental College. I, hope the information has been helpful to you, and if you need any guidance for the same, you can approach us anytime!
