BDS Admission in Karnataka- The Complete Procedure
Certainly! You must be aware that you must pass the NEET UG exam to apply to a dentistry or medical program in India. Besides, you must participate in the NEET UG counseling to gain admission into these courses.
Here, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) conducts the BDS admission process through the state NEET UG counseling. Therefore, you must participate in the Karnataka state counseling, administered online via the KEA admission website.
The NEET UG counseling is a step ladder that you will have to climb for your BDS admission in Karnataka, and here are the details!
- Online Registration.
- Registration fees.
- Document Verification.
- Security Deposit (if applicable).
- Option Entry.
- Mock Allotment.
- Option Entry Editing.
- Final Allotment.
- Admission confirmation and fee payment.
- Reporting to the Allotted College.
- Reporting to KEA.
Online Registration
Your online registration is the most crucial step, so prepare these things before you begin this process. Your complete information is your registered mobile number, email, address, caste, education, NEET details, etc.
Further, you must prepare a few documents such as the NEET scorecard, the 10th and 12th marksheet, a passport-size photograph, a signature, and a thumbprint. The scanned copies of all these must be uploaded in a specific size and format during the process.
As you begin registering on the KEA website (http://kea.kar.nic.in/), you will also get your login details (login ID, Password). Make sure you note this down!
I want to notify you that the KEA online registration can be slightly complex or hectic if you are new to this. If you have any difficulty, you can even contact us for assistance. We have been handling this for several students for many years now!
Registration Fees
Paying the registration fees is compulsory to complete your online registration. Only then will you be able to download the final copy of your KEA application form. Also, you will get a payment receipt after you pay this fee online. Download it and keep it safe!
Both these documents are crucial to completing your BDS admission process! Here are the registration fees you must pay to participate in the KEA counseling.
BDS Registration Fees in Karnataka | ||
Category | Karnataka Student | Non–Karnataka Student |
General category/UR | 500/- | 2500/- |
SC/ST/Cat-1/PWD/ GM/2A/2B/3A/3B | 500/- | 2500/- |
NRI/OCI/PIO/foreign nationals. | N/a | 5500/- |
Document Verification
Once the registration round closes, the KEA will specify dates for document verification. You will be called to the KEA office in Karnataka with all your certificates and documents for proof of eligibility. Carry all the originals and an extra two sets of photocopies!
There is a vital clarification here! This round of document verification applies only to specific categories of applicants. All Karnataka and non-Karnataka students who have used for the NRI category, minority, or any other reservation must attend this round before seat allotment.
Others, i.e., non-Karnataka students, will have to face this round after they get the BDS allotment. The process will, however, stay the same!
Once KEA verification is done, you will also receive a verification slip. This is another crucial document needed during the next step of counseling. If you haven’t, please let us know! We might be helpful!
If you want the list of documents, then you can go through my detailed article about documents required for BDS admission.
Security Deposit
In Karnataka, the security deposit was introduced in 2023 from the second round of counseling onwards.
The KEA charges Rs. 1,00,000/- as a security fee from all BDS applicants. You must pay this to participate in the option-entry round.
Don’t worry; this amount is refundable, meaning you will get it back after the counseling ends!
Option Entry
The option-entry round is scheduled for one day and only for a specific time limit. During this step, you get to fill in your choices of courses and colleges.
The entry ticket to this round is your verification slip; it will have the mandatory details required to participate in this round.
The option entry round is significant because your allotment depends on your rank and the choices you enter. So, try to formulate a plan before going ahead with it.
Also, you can refer to the BDS seat matrix released by the KEA before the option entry begins. I suggest that you research the information related to the colleges instead of abruptly entering them as your options for your best benefit!
However, if you need help, you can approach us anytime!
Mock allotment
After the option entry, the KEA conducts a mock allotment round! You can perceive this as a ‘demo round’ before the KEA does the actual seat allotment for a more superficial understanding.
The mock allotment is different from the actual allotment; it will give you an idea about the outcome of the final allotment!
Option Entry Editing
Yes! You read it right; you can edit your options after the mock allotment results. As I mentioned above, the mock allotment helps you scale the admission chances.
Based on the mock results, you can edit or add your options during this round if needed. However, this editing window opens only for a day, and following the routine is essential!
Final Allotment
Finally, the actual allotment will be announced by the KEA, and you are now just two steps away from your BDS college! Once the results are out, proceed with the fee payment to confirm your admission.
Admission Confirmation and Fee Payment
Allotted students must pay the complete first-year fees to finalize the BDS admission within a specific time limit.
The specific tuition fees will appear on your KEA profile, and it’s compulsory to pay this fee if you decide to go ahead with the allotted dental institute.
Your KEA challan will be available, and you can pay the amount through both online/offline modes. This challan or payment proof is again crucial in the last step. So, could you keep it safe?
Reporting to KEA and Allotted College
In the previous section, I discussed the KEA document verification. Unlike in this round, all the allotted students must report to the KEA authorities to verify documents.
You will also get your allotment letter after attending this round, and with this, you will come to the end of your BDS admission process in Karnataka!
Document verification is crucial, and your admission confirmation relies on it. So, I have added the documents you must carry for the verification process.
- Final printout of the KEA Registration Form.
- Payment receipt of the fees (Registration Fee/Security Fee/Tuition Fee).
- UG NEET Admit.
- UG NEET Score Card.
- Identity Card ( Driving license / Voter ID / Passport / PAN / Aadhar Card).
- SSLC / 10th Standard Marks Card.
- 2nd PUC / 12th Standard Marks Card of the candidate.
- The concerned college issued the 2nd PU /12th standard Study Certificate with the seal signature of the principal.
- Recent passport-size photographs- 2 nos.
BDS Eligibility Criteria in Karnataka
As we discuss the BDS admission in Karnataka, I want to flag that you must meet these eligibility criteria to ensure your admission. If you don’t qualify for even one, your admission is over! So, here it goes;
- The qualifying age for BDS admission is 17 years or more at the time of entry.
- In the class 12th exam, you must pass with a minimum 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for general-category students. The qualifying PCB aggregate for reserved categories SC/ST/OBC is 40% in the 12th exam. Every category student must also obtain a pass mark in English.
- Qualify for the NEET-UG exam with the minimum qualifying percentile in the same year.
